Changing the console keyboard layout
Using an external keyboard to change the keyboard layout for the console in the robot.

Changing the keyboard layout for the console requires the use of an external keyboard. Please plug in a keyboard to the USB port in the teach pendant. By default the keyboard layout for the terminal is a Danish keyboard.
It is also import to note that this does not change the keyboard within the GUI, it only changes the keyboard layout of the console.
Once a keyboard has been plugged in the key combination, Ctrl + Alt + F1, will bring up the console command line. The console will then ask for the username and password.

Ctrl + Alt + F1, will bring up the console command line. The console will then ask for the username and password.

Next type the command line:
dpkg-reconfigure console-data |
*If you are using a US international keyboard to type “-” while the keyboard is in its default Danish layout type the “/” key instead.*
This will bring up a new menu screen, from here:
- Choose the “Select keymap from arch list” option
- From here choose the appropriate keyboard family (ex. For the standard US international keyboard it is a “qwerty” layout)
- Choose the desired language (ex. US American)
- Choose the keyboard type (ex. Standard)
- Choose the Keymap (ex. Standard)
- Type the command line exit to sign out
- Press the Key combination CTRL + ALT + F7 to return to the GUI
Restart the robot and the keyboard layout should now be changed to the desired one
UR3, UR5 and UR10 (CB3.1)
Motherboards with USB
Ctrl + Alt + F1, will bring up the console command line. The console will then ask for the username and password.
Username: root
Password: easybot
Next type the command line:
dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration |
*If you are using a US international keyboard to type “-” while the keyboard is in its default Danish layout type the “/” key instead.*
This will bring up a menu screen with a long list of keyboard models, from here:
- Select the default keyboard model (The one that is currently highlighted)
- Now there language selection menu will appear. If this is not the desired language select “other” at the bottom of the menu then select the language and language version you want.
- The rest of the default keyboard settings are the standard keyboard setting. Just hit ENTER until the selection menu exits and you are back in the command line.
- Type the command line reboot to restart the controller
Restart the robot and the keyboard layout should now be changed to the desired one
UR3e, UR5e, UR10e and UR16e (e-Series)
Motherboards with USB

Choose the Keymap (ex. Standard) - Use keyboard arrow keys left/right to select <Ok> or <Cancel>
- Type the command line reboot to restart the controller
Restart the robot and the keyboard layout should now be changed to the desired one
