Motor Control Optimizations Service Note
This note provides information on motor control optimizations at low speed introduced in 5.9.2 and 5.9.3
Created: October 6th, 2020
Valid for e-Series robots only.
Robots that directly benefit by updating to Polyscope SW 5.9.2 and above: robots built in mid-2019 with Polyscope version 5.4.0 or higher and the "calibration revision" of each joint must be equal or higher than v12.0.
Robots built before mid-2019 with a calibration file revision BEFORE V12.0 must be sent to a Service Center for a one-time update: robots built with Polyscope version 5.3.1 or lower and, the "calibration revision" of each joint is lower than v12.0.
INTRO
e-Series PolyScope software release 5.9.2 and above, includes motor control optimizations that increases path tracking stability at slow speed movements, typically used in dispensing, welding, gluing, vision/inspection applications.
HOW do I GET THE OPTIMIZATIONS?
Robots that can directly benefit by updating to PolyScope SW 5.9.3 and above: robots built in mid-2019 with Polyscope version 5.4.0 or higher and the "calibration revision" of each joint must be equal or higher than v12.0.
Robots built before mid-2019 with a calibration file revision BEFORE V12.0 must be sent to a Service Center for a one-time update: robots built with Polyscope version 5.3.1 or lower and, the "calibration revision" of each joint is lower than v12.0. Please go into MyUR and request it from there.
HOW DO I CHECK MY ROBOT JOINT's CALIBRATION REVISION?
Users can check the calibration revision of the 6 joints in the file robot_calibration_summary.txt. Check the guideline HERE on how to find it on your Polyscope using the Teach Pendant.
NEXT STEP IF ROBOT IS FROM mid-2019 forward, AND JOINT REVISION equal or higher than V12.0:
- Software Update
Just install the latest SW 5.9.3 and above, if your robot fits the software and calibration revision requirements mentioned. Ask your local Universal Robot's partner for guiding you on the process and download files.
Confirm that this step has been done, and no further action is needed.
NEXT STEP IF ROBOT IS prior to mid-2019, AND JOINT REVISION LOWER THAN V12.0:
- UPDATE it IN our Service Centers
If the robot fits this category AND you NEED to optimize the motor control at low speed for your application, then the robot needs to be sent to UR's Service Hub to receive an update to the joint calibration and have 5.9.3 installed. Please contact your local Universal Robot's distributor to check how this process can be done in case you want to update it in our Service Centers.
- UPDATE Software only if no optimization wanted
If the robot fits into this category AND you DON'T NEED to optimize the motor control at low speed in your application, then you can update to the latest software and no further actions is needed.
