Summary: This is a notification of a product change.

Universal Robots has introduced an upgraded controller for all e-Series robots on PolyScope 5.

The upgraded controller is called CB5 (v5.5) and replaces previous controller CB5.2. CB5 (v5.5) is available in both the cabinet and OEM AC/DC variants like previous controller.

Also note that CB5 (v5.5) controller was first launched on UR20 robot in August 2023.

Change List

The controller CB5 (v5.5) has various upgrades and improvements compared to the CB5.2 controller across all variants,

1. Upgraded Intel Atom processor provides better computing performance.
2. RAM size increased from 2GB to 4GB.
3. SD storage space increased from 4GB to 8GB.
4. Upgraded energy eater: CB5 (v5.5) is compatible with e-Series robots as well as UR20 and UR30.
5. Power supply unit (PSU) for CB5 (v5.5) is standardized across all robots. The same controller is compatible with both smaller robots (like the UR3e) and bigger robots.
6. The cabinet variant of CB5 (v5.5) has following power cord related changes,
   • Change of wall-side plug on the power cord according to country/region.
   • Change of controller-side connector on the power cord from C19 to C13.
   • Change of controller inlet socket from C20 to C14.
     
     It is not possible to use power cord of CB5.2 with CB5 (v5.5) and vice versa.

7. Updated Labels:
   •  On the cabinet variant of CB5 (v5.5), the model name of controller and
     certification marks are added to the label. Addition of the model's name
     allows ease of identification. See figure below.
     
   • On the OEM AC/DC variants of CB5 (v5.5), the model name is added to
     allow ease of identification. See figure below
     

The cabinet and OEM AC/DC variants of CB5 (v5.5) have the same form-factor, exterior dimensions, mounting holes, and placement of connectors as previous controller CB5.2.

Software compatibility

CB5 (v5.5) is compatible with the following versions of PolyScope 5 software.

• PolyScope 5.14.6 and onwards.
• PolyScope 5.12.4 LTS and onwards.

Upgrading CB5.2 to CB5 (v5.5)

It is not possible to upgrade CB5.2 hardware to CB5 (v5.5). If you wish to have the new CB5 (v5.5) controller, you can either purchase a CB5 (v5.5) controller as a spare part or as part of a new robot.

From the following serial numbers or dates, the change of controller from CB5.2 to CB5 (v5.5) was effected on e-Series robots.

• UR5e: SN 20245500899 – July 22nd 2024
• UR10e: SN 20245201616 – July 22nd 2024
• UR16e: SN 20245600110 – July 31st 2024
• OEM AC: August 27th 2024
• OEM DC: August 28th 2024
