UR cobot optimizes packing process with ROI of less than a year

Scandinavian Tobacco Group

In short

Scandinavian Tobacco Group continuously optimises its production of pipe tobacco to ensure an ergonomically sound working environment as well as a competitive production. The installation of a UR robotic arm has eliminated back-breaking repeated movements on the process line and reduced expenditure on temporary employees.

The world’s largest factory for pipe tobacco production, Scandinavian Tobacco Group, wanted to spare its employees from having to make back-breaking repeated movements. The obvious solution was to install a robot to automate unfavourable ergonomic tasks – and as an added bonus make the production more competitive. There was just one problem: There was no room to screen off the robot in the setup at the factory.
