The world’s largest factory for pipe tobacco production, Scandinavian Tobacco Group, wanted to spare its employees from having to make back-breaking repeated movements. The obvious solution was to install a robot to automate unfavourable ergonomic tasks – and as an added bonus make the production more competitive. There was just one problem: There was no room to screen off the robot in the setup at the factory.

Careful selection

The robot has taken over the handling of lids for tobacco tins in the tobacco packing process – a task that was previously performed by hand.
