MT Solar builds solar panel mounting systems and was struggling with a 300% jump in orders and difficulty in hiring welders. Welding automation was the obvious answer, but the company’s high mix / low volume business model could not tolerate the lack of flexibility and time-consuming programming of traditional robots. MT Solar installed a UR10e based welding cell from Vectis Automation and watched productivity jump as their skilled welders worked side-by-side with the cobot welding cell. Lead times are back to normal, productivity and worker job satisfaction are improved.

The best thing about the system is that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to use it. I’m a welder by trade, but I didn’t know anything about robots, and I’m not very computer-savvy. Curiosity attracted me to the robot and I was really surprised at how easy it was to figure it out
