Vectro2 Non-Contact Gauging System

Developed from Third Dimension's 'GapGun' hand-held laser gauging system, Vectro2 enables automated 2D profile measurements to be carried out quickly and accurately in both QC and process control applications. Vectro2 can measure a wide variety of gap and flush, edge, radius, chamfer, angle, and many other critical features in your manufacturing process. Measurements can be performed consistently and reliably, even on challenging surface surfaces such as high gloss paint, glass, plastics, bare metal, and fabrics thanks to the violet laser technology used its new T-Series sensor heads. The Vectro2 for Universal Robots kit contains all the hardware and software required for easy integration and rapid deployment. Measurement data collected by Vectro2 can be stored on a USB stick in the Vectro2 controller or sent directly to a network folder where it can be accessed by your choice of data management software. Results may be used for QC purposes or fed back into the production process for closed loop control, minimizing defects and waste.

Description

Vectro2 measures by projecting a laser line onto the feature under test (FUT). The line is then viewed by camera in the head that produces an image of the line on its sensor. The camera is mounted at a known angle to the laser, and so the image is distorted relative to the profile of the FUT. As the angle is known, the profile can be reconstructed by the Vectro2 software and the feature measured, typically in about 1-2 seconds.

To enable Vectro2 to measure a wide range of different profiles, the system uses virtual 'tools' that have been optimized for a specific type of measurement, e.g. gap and flush, radius, or edge. The system is supplied with a comprehensive set of standard tools, but additional custom tools can be created using the optional SPC3D software package.

Once the feature measurement has been made, results can be stored on a USB drive or sent directly to a network location for further processing and archival.
