Universal Robots Establishes Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore
First office in the region extends Universal Robots’ commitment to improve productivity across APAC
Universal Robots (UR), a global developer and manufacturer of flexible and user-friendly industrial robots, today announced the official opening of their APAC (excludes China and India) headquarters in Singapore. The opening of UR’s sixth global office is a result of the increasing demand for collaborative robots across the region over the past three years.
With a large number of multi-national high technology companies and small and medium enterprises located in Singapore and across the region, UR is expecting to significantly increase its client base throughout APAC. The company’s Singapore office will be responsible for the operations and expansion plans across the region as well as training regional distributors on UR’s latest technologies.
Enrico Krog Iversen, CEO, Universal Robots, said, “We are thrilled to grow our business in Asia. Being closer to our customers enables us to expand our business across the region while giving us more opportunities to continue providing flexible and user-friendly automation for all. The positive year on year growth we have been experiencing has given us the confidence to bolster our presence in this exciting region and we are confident that this is an opportune time for businesses to embrace automation as a way to reap the benefits of increased collaboration and efficiency.”
In addition, UR also announced the appointment of its first General Manager for its APAC operations. Based in Singapore, Shermine Gotfredsen has been promoted from within UR and will continue to lead the company’s activities across the APAC region.
Shermine Gotfredsen, General Manager, APAC, Universal Robots, said, “We aim to work in partnership with companies across the region to make the right decisions on how to improve their productivity. On a local level and as a Singaporean, I am proud that through various grants, the government actively supports local SMEs in improving productivity through automation. By pairing Singapore’s efficiency with Danish elegance, we believe that we can help SMEs push the envelope on what they can achieve and provide them with the essential tools to succeed.”
The office opening was graced by representatives from Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING) Singapore.
Lim Kok Kiang, Assistant Managing Director, EDB, said, “We are pleased that Universal Robots has set up their Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore. As a leader in the development of a new generation of industrial robots that are intended to collaborate effectively and work safely alongside humans, Universal Robots will be one of the key drivers of the next frontier of smart automation in Singapore. The presence of Universal Robots here thus contributes to EDB’s Future of Manufacturing initiative as Singapore positions itself to be an advanced manufacturing hub in the region.”
UR was founded in 2005 in Odense, Denmark and has been serving the Asian market since 2011. Through its global outreach, the company strives to keep manufacturers informed about the benefits that their collaborative and lightweight robots can bring to their businesses. Today, UR has an extensive network of authorised distributors spread across the region to give customers the local support they require.
